A joint initiative between Arts Queensland and Council, the A-Venue Youth Music Initiative (A-Venue) aims to assist young and emerging musicians and music industry workers to develop their skills and enhance their professional opportunities by helping them to access business training, mentoring, industry induction, management skills training and production facilities, and by providing links to entertainment events in local communities.
The initiative has created partnerships with a range of organisations as diverse as Q Music, Gold Coast Music Industry Association (GCMIA), PCYC, Surfing Queensland, Restaurant & Catering Queensland, TAFE and Griffith University.
More than 100 performance opportunities for local emerging bands or solo artists have been organised at major events since 2004, including the Big Day Out, Parklife, Surfers Paradise Festival,Schoolies Festival, Quicksilver and Roxy Pro surfing championships and Gold Coast National Youth Week.
In total, the workshops, business development projects and cluster networks have involved in excess of 1000 participants. Council continues to recommend local emerging artists for local events, and provides on-going advice and feedback to local young musicians.
